Symmetry Medical Inc.’s board of directors has appointed Craig Reynolds as board chairman, and elected Thomas Chorman and Robert Deuster as directors. The appointments were made at the company’s annual meeting of stockholders in June.
Deuster served as chairman and CEO of Irvine, Calif.-based Newport Corporation from May 1996 until his retirement in October 2007. Newport manufactures precision components and systems for research, life and health science, aer-ospace and defense, and industrial manufacturing businesses.
Deuster also currently serves as a director on the board of NEXX Systems in Billerica, Mass., a privately held semiconductor capital equipment company. From 1985 to 1996, Deuster served in various senior management positions at Applied Power Inc. in Brighton, Mich., a global manufacturer of electrical and hydraulic products. He was senior vice president of the Distributed Products Group from 1994 to 1996.
Symmetry Medical Inc. is a provider of implants and related instruments and cases to the orthopedic device industry.
ArthroCare Corp. has named Andrew Miclot as senior vice president, general manager, of its Ear, Nose and Throat (ENT) Business.
In his new role, Miclot will manage ArthroCare’s ENT product lines, which are used by surgeons to perform tonsillectomies and adenoidectomies annually.
Miclot most recently was president and CEO of orthopedic device and implant maker Ascension Orthopedics in Austin, Texas.
Previously, he held senior level positions at Orthofix International N.V., which is headquartered in Huntersville, N.C.; and Symmetry Medical, DePuy Orthopaedics and Zimmer Holdings Inc., all based in Warsaw, Ind.
During his 13 years at Symmetry, Miclot held several positions including senior vice president and investor relations officer.
Active Implants Corp., based in Memphis, Tenn., has named Michael R. Mainelli Jr. as CEO. Mainell
i succeeds company co-founder Stephen Bradshaw.
Mainelli has served as president of both Stryker Spine in Kalamazoo, Mich., and Stryk-er Japan in Tokyo, Japan, and has worked in the medical device in-dustry for more than 20 years. He began his career at General Electric Co. and rose to an executive role in what is now GE Healthcare. Mainelli has been an Active Implants board member since 2008.
